Silicone Engine Covers for All Current C8 Corvette Models
Congratulations on your new C8 purchase. It is truly the most remarkable Corvette ever and it will only get better in the years ahead. Shortly after mine was delivered, I discovered something that you cannot tell when you order the car, nor can you really see in pictures. The rear glass is surrounded with cooling vents and the lower part of the rear glass is open to further assist with cooling your engine. These are all positive things for cooling but not for keeping your car as clean as you may like. I would suspect that many of you are like me, fanatical about keeping things clean inside and out and this includes the engine compartment, the jewel of the car. I experienced the full impact of this upon washing the car for the first time. I had assumed the water would channel itself to the drains located under the rear hatch, but it does not. Water floods right through the cooling vents and everywhere in the engine bay. To clean this took me over an hour polish things back up again.
I tried tape, rags, anything I could think of to block the water from going into the engine compartment while washing. The results of these tests was mixed at best. The tape would leave glue residue or not stick at all, rags would blow off in the smallest of breezes and each time I would have to clean the engine bay. This is how the C8MAC was born.
I had an idea, a way to keep the water out without hurting the car in any way. After nearly twelve months of development, thousands of dollars in designing and tooling and a lot of trial and error, We have created a solution.
Once the tooling was complete the search for exactly the right material was underway. The material chosen would be critical to the function as well as the protection of the car. There were many different materials to choose from and we tried many. My going in concern was selecting a material would not scratch or damage the car in any way, not damage the vent system in any way but at the same time, would keep 99+% of the water out of the engine compartment. For me, this would save hundreds of hours over the life of the car by removing the need for meticulous detailing of the engine compartment after each wash. We chose 100% silicone.
The silicone is medical grade, skin safe 100% silicone. The silicone will not tear, (under normal usage) will not shrink, and is impervious to water. The covers will last for years. The natural color of the silicone is translucent milky white and all C8MAC sets are created with red lettering. (see images). All sets are shipped in a convenient storage bag that allows the parts to breathe after washing. You can also use your set to protect your C8 engine bay during periods of storage to help keep out dust as an example. You may notice small bubbles within your product set. These are a by-product of casting liquid silicone and will not impact the function in any way. We are constantly striving to improve our manufacturing process and will continue to do so.
The C8MAC fits all models of the C8 Corvette Coupe and every set is 100% fitted to our test Corvette before it ships to you. We are in development of the convertible C8MAC now and it will be available in Summer 2022.
